Skolfederation components, standards and relations

Below you can find an illustration of Skolfederation and it's different components, standards, and the relations inbetween.

Skolfederation consists of two technical federations: the SAML2 federation and the Moa (FedTLS) federation.

The SAML2 federation consists of a central metadata containing all members' SAML Identity Provider and Service Provider metadata. The WebSSO Technical Profile set requirements on members' SAML implementations as well as the metadata, and is the key technical requirement document for the SAML2 federation. The Attribute Profile defines rules and requirements for which attributes are to be used in the federation (i.e. sent in the SAML Assertion).

The Moa federation consists of a central metadata containing all members' FedTLS clients and servers used for mTLS authentication. The FedTLS Technical Profile set requirements on members' FedTLS implementations as well as the metadata, and is the key technical requirement document for the Moa federation. The Strengthened Tags Profile defines recognized tags used for specific purposes in Moa. The tags usually defines an information model and transfer method, and is also used for endpoint discovery in Moa.

More on Moa can be found here.
